Today, many students apply early in their senior year. As early as October or November of the first semester in their senior year. This is because many colleges offer the applicants the option of applying early with an early response on their applications. Usually a student who has applied early will come to know of their admission chances within a few weeks of the deadline. E.g., a student who applies early by Nov 1 will come to know of the admission decision by mid December.
STEM. Science. Technology. Engineering. Mathematics. Some of the most sought after majors. In our last post we looked at the admission GPA and test scores for some universities for science and engineering and found that there can be a difference in the admission profiles.
STEM — Science. Technology. Engineering. Mathematics. STEM is huge buzzword today … a word that places all things science, technology, engineering and math on a similar footing. However, that can be a bit misleading when it comes to college applications.
Political science is the 7th most popular major in the country just by the sheer number of students who graduate in political science. Interestingly it is not (yet) a much-searched major on O’s List.
Economics is the 12th most popular major in the country just by the sheer number of students who graduate in economics. It is also the 5th most searched major on O’s List.
Many Liberal Arts Colleges pride themselves on their Social Sciences curriculum. Certainly, social sciences graduates are a large part of their graduating class. But would you know the percentage of students who are graduating in social science across the various liberal arts colleges?

As we have written before, a liberal arts colleges offers majors across a wide spectrum of humanities, sciences, social sciences, including engineering. What about a liberal arts college where most of its students graduate in STEM majors … sciences, math and engineering? What makes it a liberal arts college? Is it the education philosophy, small classrooms, or the ability to be more explorative across the spectrum of subjects?
The University of California (UC) system released their preliminary data for the fall 2017 entering class. A quick recap before we dive into the numbers. In 2015, an agreement was reached between the CA legislators and UC to increase the instate enrollment by 10,000 over 3 years.
Do students really graduate in any STEM major from a Liberal Arts College? Are the numbers significant? The short answer is YES and YES!
When most folks read or hear about Liberal Arts Colleges, the first thought that that pops into their mind is that these colleges teach mostly Liberal Artsy majors. But what exactly is a Liberal Art major?
And what are the majors that are taught at Liberal Arts Colleges?
